Girlie day out!

Dimitria (my bestest friend a.k.a sister) and I decided that we'll go to Carousel for a final shopping session before the exams after gym today. I reckon today's the perfect day to go shopping...why? cos its drizzling, cold and windy...so staying indoor= PERFECT! Dimi had her whole shopping list with her to stop her from impulse buying...i thought its pretty funny...

1st stop= Myer-target-kmart(GREEN ipod nano hunting)
1st thing on dimi's list was green ipod nano....myer only had the bright pink...feeling a tad bit annoyed with the bad customer service and that they only had the bright pink nano we decided to try out Target...even worst...shitty yellow colour...so we head down to our last "hope" aka Kmart...yay its there! we could spot it miles away....(it was that bright of a green). Super content and excited with her latest gadget...next stop!

2nd stop= Temt
BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE! bad bad customer service...not happy! That asian chick was sooo rude and she was talking to us as if we were idiots.."make sure you hang the clothes back properly" in her bitchy tone and the fact she said it 3 times as if we couldnt understand simple english and the 3rd time cupping her hands around her mouth and yelling it out..."yes we heard you quite fine the first time" Would you get angry when your treated like an idiot? yes i'm pretty sure you will...if we gave such bad customer service at work we would of been gotten into deep trouble....ANYWAYS...back to shopping...I saw this blue and white stripy 3/4 sleeved shirt at garden city which i thought was quite nice...so i decided to try it on this time and see what dimi thinks. Initial thought as i put it on...its a tad bit big...and as soon as i walked out of the fitting room...she had that "its abit big" look on...but that's why I like it...its comfy..its meant to be loose, have that sorta laid back kinda feel to it...good for plane trips and exams when you dont want to feel restricted....so I bought it..hehe and dimi bought a nice grey top which was long enough to be a dress and now she's gonna wear it as a dress and to continue with our "green theme"she got a green top and another identical one for her mummy...aww isnt she sweet. Next stop!

3rd stop= Gelare
Woohoo half price on waffles! Gelare makes the best the BEST (i think you get the point) THE BEST Waffles...well other than Waffle world in Malaysia which makes truly the BEST. To our dismay there were only 8 choices...and no Chocolate obssession or Jamaican chocolate(dimi's fav) or tiramisu(my fav)....yes very disappointed! Seeing that we're watching our waistline, I decided to go for the Organic Soy chocolate obsession while dimi went for low fat choc chip chunk yoghurt ice cream(phew...that's a mouthfull). Boy it was delicious...heavenly...hmmmm...the whole sweet and slightly melted ice cream accompanied with the hint of saltiness of the waffles...YUMMM!! I reckon its funny how we ate waffles and ice cream straight after the gym...its like take it out...put it straight back in... :)

4th stop= fruit and veg shop
To try to balance the ice cream up...we decided to get some fruit and veg...and ive been having these cravings for cherry tomatoes...weird..I know....Those huge, yellow and pinkish mangoes caught our attention straight away...it smelt soooo good! hmmmm...so we grab 2 each (i swear they weigh like a ton each!) and cos they didnt have any cherry tomatoes...i bought some grape tomatoes instead. Happy and content we both are...we decided to head to our next stop

5th and final stop= SMIGGLE!!!!
Have you ever been to smiggle? Its this ultra awesome stationary shop that's colour cordinated...they've got the most awesomess stationaries...bendy pencils, sets of mini smiggle highlighters, bone-shaped erasers....and the price is really reasonable. Our eyes were beaming with happiness in there...to continue with our "green theme" dimi bought a green pencil case while I bought a green pen and a small green notebook that i can carry around and jot down some stuff for my blog...ooo and this is the link www.smiggle.com.au. soo have to check that out! sooo cool!

After the final stop...we decided to go home and start doing some work..seeing ive got 2 assignments due on friday...anyways hope you had fun reading my lame blog! ciao ciao!

Interesting facts about Vit A

What's the first thing that pops into your mind when i say Vitamin A?? I bet you said carrot....or healthy eyes or.....carrot juice lover with orange hands?? yes carrot is a good source of vit A but do you know what else is? GREEN LEAFY VEGETABLES! bet you didnt expect that! but...but...green vegies are....green and carrots are orange...yes yes i know...its because the yellow pigment that are found in leafy veg are masked by chlorophils(green pigments) which makes it look green although its got lutein(yellow pigments) in it...I dont know about you...but Ive never expected green leafy veg to be a rich source of Vit A...cool huh? okay maybe i'm the only one who found it interesting... some other good sources of Vit A are mangoes, papayas, red palm oil and youve guessed it...CARROTS!

Anu's 19th birthday!

Birthday girl- Anu and Mandy

I had to get ready very quickly cos i finish work at 630pm and the party starts at 7pm....since there was no way i could do my makeup and hair in 30 mins, the only option was to be 30 mins late for the party. Poor Step had to sit through me putting on my mascara, eye liner, blow drying my hair meanwhile chatting, painting toe nails and putting on necklace and earrings...man am good at multitasking or wot?

We managed to get to the party at 730...had something to eat....Anu's mum makes the best rice dish and anu's quiche is really good too! After cutting the cake we caught the cab down to Amber Bar on Murray Street. We prayed that it wouldnt pour when we are in the line trying to get into the bar....which thankfully didnt happen...but boy was it cold that night! The bar was situated in the unlikeliest place ever...its like in the back alley of 2 buildings...and the bar is "underground", quite dark and "different"....but they've got pretty good music....had to give them that... Anu and I decided to get a drink....being the non-regular-clubber that I am...I had no idea what to drink but suddenly i remembered my ex mentioned a cocktail called "mojito"....so i asked the bartender whether they had it...but apparently they couldnt make it cos they didnt have enough mint...or didnt have mint...something along those lines, all i knew was that Im not getting my Mojito. Frankly speaking i dont even know what Mojito is...haha just wanted to try it cos that was the only drink i knew other than smirnoff, decaree, squash frog and yaygabomb-however you spell it. (after abit of googling and wikipedia...apparently Mojito is a cuban drink that has white rum, lime, sugar, bicarbonate soda and MINT...sounds refreshing...must try next time!)Anyways....the bartender recommended tequilla sunrise which was surprisingly yummy!

Yummy tequila sunrise! tasted abit like OJ

Anu opted for the yagabomb...which is just red bull with a shot of jagameister on the side where you're meant to drop it into the red bull and skull it. It tastes like bubblegum....I had one later in the night..only exception was that i didnt do the whole skulling thing cos apparently it goes straight to the head.....dont think i would want my mum to see me drunk or tipsy...We all hit the dancefloor and had sooooo much fun dancing! The music was soo loud that i could babely hear myself talking when i got out of there...Mum picked me up at 12 15 am cos i had to go to work at 8am the next morning...i reckon i could of stayed even later if i didnt have work...it was sooooo much fun! Will do it again after exams! :)

The girls chilling on the lounge

Much thanks to the nice stranger lady who took this pic for us!

Power point presentation...

I am soo glad its over! finally! nervous is really an understatement about how i felt before my presentation, speaking infront of a small group of people is not the main problem but speaking infront of an intelligent woman who knows practically everything about the topic i'm doing is nerve wrecking....and yes that person is my nutrition and nutritional biochemistry lecturer...Dr Jill Sherriff. She's the best lecturer ive known so far, she knows her stuff, very down to earth, quite approchable and very willing to help but whenever you say something wrong she'll give that smile and look only a mother can give to a child when theyve done something wrong...n makes you go (oh oh...i think i'll stop talking now) or some people may call it intimidating...intimidated by her intelligence...now you how i felt right before the speech.

Half an hour before my presentation i was still at home suffering from a major panic attack because i couldnt work out what i was gonna wear...(i know pathetic...i could see some people rolling their eyes now) but it says on the sheet to dress professionally...i was gonna wear this dress that looked quite formal but it just didnt looked right....so i put on this white short sleeved button up top tucked into this black A- line skirt that i havent worn in 2 yrs...i asked for mum's opinion...she said very bluntly " yeh it looks good...you looks like a waitress with the whole black and white thing" judging by my facial expression she quickly added "nah its good, you look like proper a uni student now"whatever that's suppose to mean...she prob said it cos she could tell I wasnt very pleased with her 1st comment...After that i thought maybe a high waisted pencil skirt would be a better idea...but mum said the A line skirt is better...so off i went putting the other one on again...you can imagine the state of my bed...and the word messy is an understatement! To de-waitressise my outfit i decided to add some accessories- long necklace, black patent belt and black peep toe heels...i feel quite confident in it...that'll do...cant be stuffed wasting more time on it...not forgetting to grab my little USB and my speech off the table as i dash into my car..after all that the most important thing isnt it?

The walk from woop woop aka hockey stadium to building 400 was hellish due to the combination of adrenaline rush, butterflies in my stomach, holding down my skirt before i start flashing everyone and the heat was just unbearable. But luckily the whole presentation wasnt overly formal...it was pretty casual so i was fine once i got up and started to speak....i was quite surprised i didnt get tongue twisted with the amount of "chromatography, erythrocytes, thiamin, thiochrome" in my speech...and Jill didnt ask me any questions or correct me at the end of the presentation like she did with some other people in class...so yes I am very very relieved and happy that its all done! I can move onto my next one biochem report! This one is based on the comparison of protein content in cow's milk and plant based milk...should be pretty easy :)

Assignments!!!!!!!!!

Im feeling soo free and happy after placing that 32 page food processing module 2 assignment(more like a book) into a clean plastic sleeve..FINALLY a whole week of slaving and late night is finally over! Time to get on to the next assignment...the dreaded Nutrition power point presentation on the topic of Thiamin in blood where I have to talk about how thiamin on red blood cells are measured(including the process, what's is done, limitations, advantages etc etc etc) and at the moment i have pretty much nothing to talk about and is freaking out majorly...The most valueble piece of information that ive gotten from many books and journal articles(amazingly they all say the same thing) is "thiamin is measured by an HPLC method with fluorescent detection for rapid determination of thiamin in food, body fluids, urine and faeces" err do you guys mind elaborating as to how the HPLC experiment is carried out? ..i dont think its quite possible to speak for 6 mins meanwhile trying to sound intelligent when ive only got one piece of info...unless...i spell everything out...or alternatively i can go and look for more info on the library website instead of rambling on here...(silence.....) nah...i'll spell everything out...haha

Time of the year,,,,

Good morning o lil ones! how is everyone today on this beautiful day? hopefully not stucked indoors calculating 14 pages of means and standard deviations like me! Its the time of the year isnt it where there's only 27 days till exam week (so i have been reminded) and everything is piling up...struggling to stay on top of everything and feel like you are drowning in the sea of assignments, tests and the thought of exams is just bone chilling...brrr..Its also the time where you wished there were more than 24 hours in a day so you could finish all the assignments, study and still get 8 hours of sleep...I'm pretty sure everyone is feeling and going through the same thing at the moment....I'm here to wish everyone all the best with their studies, study like you've never studied before..it'll pay off and then party like you've never partied before after exams! Once again study hard and all the best!

Much luv,
Amanda

My first post!

Hey there! how's it going? I'm buzzing at the moment thanks to that mug of coffee I had 5 secs ago...since this is my first post...I figured I should write about why i started this blog. Well, I have always wanted a spot where i could share my thoughts with other people, talk about my passion for fashion, nutrition and....music(sorry couldnt find another word that ends with -ion) and a spot where i write about my past(childhood), present and future. Which is I'm thinking of changing my blog title to "Past, Present and Future"...what do u guys reckon? leave it or change it? or even better...give me some suggestions...(sorry bry...Amandamal Instinct wont be an option)

I will be posting alot of nutrition relating information because it is something Ive always had great interest in, its what i'm studying now and what my job will revolve around in the future...
and thought i shall share what ive learnt with other people. As the girlie girl that i am, ive got an obssession with pretty things- nice shoes..bags..clothes..accesories...i luv the bold and bright colours that's in for spring this season, the gorgeous flowy flowery dresses and cute high waisted 50s skirt with a singlet tucked in and a nice belt to complete the outfit...very chic.... :)

Some people assumed that i'm a "banana" by the way i speak and act...banana is what you would call someone who'se yellow(asian) on the outside but white on the inside...but no...i'm alot more asian as you may think especially when it comes to certain believes and values. When it comes to music, i prefer chinese songs..I listen to chinese songs everywhere...in the car, on youtube etc. Its because they still retain that conservativeness, purely the love between 2 people, sing about human emotions, heart break, personal encounters; totally opposite to some western songs which sings about money, cars, sex, clubbing, glamorise materialism, portraying women as sex objects. I'm not saying that all english songs portrays all of the above...but it is often the super catchy and popular ones(that are constantly played over and over again on radios) the ones that portrays all of those nonsense. What do you reckon the younger ones will come to accept? They'll come to accept that this is what they have to conform to inorder to stay "cool"...which i reckon its pretty sad..however these are only my personal opinion, feel free to jot down your opinion!

I'm gonna stop writing cos its getting abit late now...but stay tuned....I'll be back with more!
Nitez! :)
